De-Mystifying CDOs

Date: 24 Sep 2008
Location: London
Address: The Hatton
51 - 53 Hatton Garden
London
EC1N 8HN
Event Description: The Collateralised Debt Obligation (CDO), where original debt is securitised and transformed into products with radically different risk profiles, is one of the most major and recently controversial of these developments in financial engineering. Much of the problem of the so called ‘Credit Crunch’ has been laid at the door of CDOs, particularly those backed by mortgages of inferior quality or ‘sub prime’.

In just one day:

Review the securitisation process and the role of SPVs and SIVs
Explore the basic mechanics of CDOs: cash flows, risk tranches and default impact
Examine the techniques for assessing risk in a portolio of credit products
Understand the relationship between Credit Spreads and Default Risk
Apply a simple CDO pricing model with correlation
Identify the risk sensitivities and behaviour of different tranches
Consider more complex CDOs and current issues of illiquidity and valuation

The course will be of benefit to anyone who needs to understand Collateralised Debt Obligations in more detail, particularly those whose day-to-day role is not directly the Trading or Sales of these products. This will include Senior Management, Compliance, Risk Management, Operations, Internal Audit, Finance, Legal, and Treasury specialists in Banks, Investment Managers, Hedge Funds, Insurance Companies and Institutional Investors.
