KEY THEMES FOR 2009
New - Doing More with Less
Internal auditors haven’t escaped the impact of the current financial crisis. A common concern is doing more with less. Budgets have been slashed but demands on internal audit to add value and deliver effective assurance have never been higher.
To this end, the 2009 Euro IACON programme will provide case study presentations on how other organisations are dealing with this dilemma.
1. Maurice Goddard, Chief Operating Officer – Group-Wide Internal Audit, Prudential will look at how internal audit can respond to the challenges of the economic situation.
2. James Paterson, Vice President Group Internal Audit will give an insight into what’s been done at AstraZeneca. He will give an open presentation on how they’ve transformed the audit department to do more with less resources.
New - Dealing with a Pandemic…
Plus, no-one could have avoided the threat of swine flu. Malcolm Zack, Head of Internal Audit at Brakes Group will be discussing how they prepared for and dealt with the outbreak of a pandemic. He will look at lessons to be learnt and tips for how to deal with future outbreaks.
New - Practical Skills Sessions
This year we will also be including more practical presentations. Hearing the theory is all well and good but we thought it’d be better to include some more practical ‘how to’ sessions to provide you with tools & tips that you can actually implement back in the office. This will include sessions on:
· Auditing major projects
· Spreadsheet risk management
· How to audit outsourced operations
· Managing the risks associated with third parties
· Auditing for smaller departments/companies
New Themes & Topics
As well as the key topics already mentioned, the main streams and themes for this year’s programme include:
· Developments in European Corporate Governance
· World Class Audit & Risk Functions
· Stakeholder Relationships
· Practical Skills
· Fraud Prevention
· Internal Audit Challenges
· IT Governance
· Enterprise Risk Management
The conference programme is split into streamed sessions to allow you to pick and choose the topics of most relevance to you.
Round-table Sessions: Interactive Format
Plus, we will be including the popular interactive round-table discussion sessions. These give you the opportunity to discuss issues raised during the key presentations face to face with the speaker.
It’s structured discussion providing a great forum for debate of common auditing issues and an unique opportunity to have your questions answered by the keynote speakers at the conference, away from the main auditorium.
More Networking Opportunities: Drinks Reception
The drinks reception following day one of the conference is the perfect opportunity for networking with both the speakers and other delegates. It’s an opportunity to discuss the issues raised in a relaxed, informal environment.
