The IRM’s Professional Development Forum is the largest, most comprehensive, educational risk management event in Europe. Bringing together practicing risk professionals with academics, attracting delegates from the private, public and not-for-profit sectors and reflecting the IRM’s international membership, the event offers a professional development opportunity unmatched anywhere else. We've attracted some of the top names in risk management as speakers and workshop leaders for delegates to meet, question and learn from. Leaders of IRM's special interest groups and regional groups from around the world will be there, along with IRM board members, faculty members, examiners, members, students and supporters. Non-members are more than welcome to attend the event as a taster of what IRM membership has to offer as well as a learning and networking experience in its own right.
Unlike commercial risk conferences, the IRM event focuses on education and professional development for risk professionals at all stages in their careers. The university campus environment gives a relaxed feel to the event with mutual exchange of knowledge and information, plus time for reflection and networking, replacing high pressure sales pitches.
Opening speaker is Gurt Cruywagen from Tsogo Sun Group, South African Risk Manager of the Year 2009, wildlife enthusiast and TV personality, who will be speaking on ‘Jungle Risk Management’. Later on Day One a high powered “Question Time” panel will respond to questions from delegates about current challenges in risk management. Panel members include
· ‘whistleblower’ Paul Moore, former head of regulatory risk at HBOS and now an independent consultant
· Bruce Hepburn, MD of MacTavish group, the authors of recently published research suggesting serious deterioration in company risk profiles caused by the recession
· Emma McConachie, specialist risk and governance talent expert
· Stephen Roberts, UK leader of Marsh’s Strategic Risk Practice
· Mark Schaedeli, Head of Risk Management at Nestlé, and
· Arnout van der Veer, Chief Risk Officer at Reed Elsevier
Day Two sees the return by popular request of Stephen Carver, Cranfield lecturer, project management expert and storyteller, this time turning his attention to the Battle of Britain as the supreme lesson of managing complex programmes under conditions of extreme uncertainty, and the conference concludes with Steve Head of Headstart, performance management specialist, who will energise delegates to take away what they have learned and put it into practice.
The forum will also feature a comprehensive range of specialist workshops on topics essential to risk management, with workshop leaders travelling in from countries including Denmark, Norway, South Africa and Malta to share their expertise. There will also be a professional development exhibition and unrivalled networking opportunities and social events. |
