In order to address growing concerns around climate change and energy security, Marsh today announced that it has formed a International Nuclear Practice, drawing together Marsh’s extensive expertise and skills for all nuclear clients based outside the US and Canada. It will be headed by Mark Popplewell, head of Marsh’s UK power and utilities practice, who will also work closely with Dan McGarvey, Leader of the US Utility and Nuclear Practice.

Commenting on the announcement, Mr Popplewell said: “Governments are set to undertake a massive investment in the construction of nuclear new build over the next 10 to 15 years to address both climate change concerns and the need for greater energy security. This will follow on to greatly increased investment in associated infrastructure and services, as well as in the management of nuclear decommissioning.

“Marsh’s depth of resource and specialist expertise make it the broker of choice to deliver the best service and advice to our nuclear industry clients. The International Nuclear Practice will further enhance our ability to serve our clients seamlessly and speedily, wherever their need.”

Alex Moczarski, President of Marsh’s International Operations, added: “The formation of our International Nuclear Practice is testament to Marsh’s commitment to providing market-leading risk and insurance services to all companies involved in the global infrastructure business. Mark’s long experience in the power and utilities sector, and in particular knowledge of the nuclear industry, equip him well in his new role.” Mr Popplewell, who retains his present role, will report to Mr Moczarski.
