03/Aug/2010
RSM Tenon, the UK’s seventh largest accountancy and business advisory firm, is pleased to announce the promotion of John Baker to Director in charge of the RSM Tenon National Fraud Solutions team.

John has been involved in fraud prevention and investigation for over 15 years and is a Director of the London Fraud Forum, sits on the Advisory Panel of Portsmouth University’s Centre for Counter Fraud Studies and is on the Editorial Board for the ‘Fraud Intelligence’ magazine. Prior to joining RSM Tenon, one of his roles was Project Lead for the Attorney General’s Fraud Review Fraud Loss Measurement Unit’s Working Group; in addition he was the Vice Chair of a Parliamentary data-sharing and identity fraud group.  He has also acted as a Senior Counter Fraud Advisor at CIPFA.

John commented on his new role: “I am looking forward to growing the firm’s NHS counter-fraud capability, whilst at the same time further expanding our services in the public sector arena, in particular helping organisations to address the risks of fraud in local government, social housing and education.

“Over the past twelve months we have also seen an increase in fraudulent activity in the SME and corporate sectors.  Our team will be using their vast knowledge and investigation skills to help businesses attack this costly (both financially and reputationally) problem, which in the extreme, can cause businesses to fail in these tumultuous times.”

Richard Smith, RSM Tenon’s Head of the Risk Management Division, commented:
“John’s promotion is very well deserved.  Over the past 12 months John and his team have been very busy as a result of the mounting number of fraud cases in the UK John’s proven track record in resolving problems with businesses that have been at the sharp end of increased fraudulent activity, is a great help for companies in tackling and preventing fraud. The team have developed robust systems to help business combat this increase in fraud.”

John is also a regular contributor in the press and has written a number of articles on fraud for ‘Public Finance’, ‘Fraud Intelligence’, ‘Accounting’ and many other reputable magazines.

Andy Raynor, RSM Tenon’s Chief Executive said: “Our people are key to our success and their experience, expertise and passion are essential in advising our clients effectively. There has been a lot of change within our business over the last 12 months, including a move to the main list and significant mergers -  but one thing has and always will stay the same, the talented people we have across all our  service lines and regions.”

RSM Tenon has over 50 offices and over 3000 staff across the UK and has a current turnover of £250m.
